Billy Willbond: A Meeting With Mother AfricaA MEETING WITH MOTHER AFRICA

Mother Africa poled her slim log canoe
through the wide deep rivers of strife
Her children waited upon the shore
for the one who had given them life

A muzuri red chequered dress, her best
Like those worn by her sisters on shore
HIV and AIDS, the dreaded positive test
Has made her whole Continent poor!

She stays barely afloat
just a few fish in her boat.
Do we hear the Aids Orphans cry
when she turns to the West and asks why?

Midst the sewage smell and poverty hell
walking Kibera’s Nairobbery slum
The Canadian brown-hatted and fat masungu
saw some wonderful work being done!

So please assist to fill up the boat
and help keep her afloat;
help your African sister and brother
Support the poor African Mother(s)!
