BOREDOM

I was feeling bored it was a long, long drive
But the sun on my face made me come alive
Passing by a lady with a coffin on her head
Was it an indication that her child was dead?

Feeling the boredom of the African plains
Bouncing along feeling minor aches and pains
We passed a man carrying a coffin on his bike
Did HIV/AIDS take away his wife’s life?

I watched with boredom as trees were cut down
These trees were delivered to a shop in town
I asked Kinyanjui Kihara if we could stop
So I could take a photo of the coffin shop

In a wood working shed they were busy as could be
A large gang of men made lumber from each tree
Against one wall stood coffins large and small
The AIDS pandemic’s good for business after all

In the dry dusty centre of the African street
Women carry water, in their tired bare feet
As a coffin shop worker nailed a coffin board
My feelings of boredom were suppressed and deplored!
