Empty Bowl… Empty Tummy… Hunger Filled Eyes: Will you help fill his bowl… please!
YOUR PERSONAL WAR ON POVERTY

I am a man who all my life turned a blind eye to other’s strife
charity remained at home with my children and my wife
When we went out to Africa to honour our U.N. dead
I saw a bone thin orphan with a fungus on his head

The short curly hair that should be black was a darkish tint of red
Malnutrition makes the fungus thrive; that child would soon be dead
I saw doctors and nurses work with kids – they managed to get by
Because they worked for nothing amongst those about to die!

With a changed mind I vowed to be kind, to try and help the poor
HIV Sickness, Famine hunger, dirty water that you’d deplore
Were reason enough for Lynne and I to battle the poverty war
Medical supplies were needed so we collected more and more

If you see the huts in the Nairobi Slums you will come to realize
There are no poor in Canada, no one through starving dies
Our small children have shelter, many Africans they have none
When drought kills all the cattle people wither in the sun

We opened wells we issued goats we represented CIDA
Then we came back to Canada and approached the media
Out went the word about ICROSS about our work in Gong
About the need for medicine – the list it grew quite long

ICROSS CANADA, for seven years has helped poor suffering man
And we want you to send a cheque and help us if you can
We volunteer, no one gets paid – we send receipts for charity
To help us send containers out with annual regularity!
